Yes You Need Snow Tires

The alloy wheels were only $50 more than the steelies he was selling and they had the alloy in stock.
Back when even high spec Hondas came with steel wheels dealers would take them off and upsell to alloys. Those take offs were cheap. Now only the cheapest Civic has steel wheels and you can’t find take offs.
Also, Tire Rack for winter wheels. Not as good as they were before they were bought out by Tires Direct but still the easiest way if you’re gonna change them yourself.

Just went with Michelin Cross Climate 2 on my wife's CR-V after reading reviews and a recommendation from a friend.
We had Continental Cross Contact before and they were good. They did get noisy as they wore but guessing that's normal.
I've been very happy with the Cross Climate 2. My husband got them after some research in 2024. Drove the RAV4 to Colorado in December and did end up driving on snow a few days.

Had a snow tire emergency over the last couple of days. One of my Gislaved Nordfrosts blew up for unknown reasons (deemed "not repairable" by big box convenient shop). Could have have had something to do with driving in a snowstorm with a flat tire and not realizing the the tire was flat. Anyhoo, fortunately a rear tire on a front wheel drive car, got the the donut installed thanks to CAA (aka AAA) and started calling around and looking online. The Gislaved is now rare and expensive, so happy to go with something similar. First shop had an X-Ice on sale for $209 CAD. F that. Scored a clearout late model Blizzack for $73 at Kal Tire, a big chain here in the Hinterlands. Great service! Back up and running.

Gislaved were my first set of snow tires, late 1980s. They were awesome. I don't think they're imported into the US any more.
