Living in the Mountains

Harv, One thing that is kind of cool up here in the north country which you wouldn't see in any metro area. On a clear dark night(not to many this time of year though), go out in an area with an open view and see how many satellites you can spot.
There are many more than you would expect. Some are easier to spot than others, mostly just a small dot but moving really quickly compared to say commercial aircraft. And of course they are silent. Just something i thought you might find interesting.

We definitely see satellites.

I learned about the Bortle scale. It goes from 1 to 9, 1 being complete darkness and 9 is inner city.

We are Bortle 2 here, pretty dark. Love it!

coming in from area 51?
I’ve seen huge glowing orbs over Area 51 but that’s north of Vegas in the basin and range region. This was out on the Mojave national preserve in California south of Joshua tree.

To stay on topic, we moved this past year (I think I mentioned this somewhere in this thread) away from the higher elevation San Francisco Peaks to the Big Sandy Valley east of Kingman, Arizona. We have the Aquarius Mountains to the east and the Hualapai Mountains to the west. We have 3 or 4 neighbors in a 1 mile circumference and we are a mile and a half up a dirt road.
