ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Ya can use goats for ski trail clearin too.

The goats are munchin brush at Deer Valley.
The shepherd had to do a dang round up after a mountain goat let em loose.

Took the rivian in for tire rotation and some small warranty items. Got a Silverado EV loaner rental. First impression quite nice. Ac better than Rivian. Drive feel is better than the S (though about same as T). I like it. R1s better in all other ways.

I will say this could be a good intro to ev car (other than price point) as they default it to no one pedal driving and at least this model listed 170 miles of range at 36 percent. Pretty beastly range translates to well over 400 miles. Towing usually cuts ev range in half.

Did you notice if the back seat can be folded and opened up to the bed like the Avalanche did? To give it a longer cargo bed?
Ooh I did not. Will try to check it out. Only drove it the 20 minutes from the service center.

GM crammed one of these at us as soon as they came out. It listed for over 100K. Just to get rid of it we lost 10K.

Maybe in some markets they're desirable, obviously not ours --- LOL
this vid says it all....

Sorry dude. I meant more that it feels more like an ICE: it makes a fake vroom sound; if you go with defaults it drive like ICE, etc.

Not to be cute, understanding my implicit bias, I don’t think the market in central NY is demanding EV trucks. Yes generalizations are bad.

To be clear I would never pay 80 k or whatever.

I would not buy the rivian at current prices. For me it was a planned splurge and the only thing that checked my boxes (real family car with third row, off road capable as is, electric, 300 miles of range). After tax rebate and first year’s electric saving (fuel saving), I got it for 65 k before taxes. Can’t get many spec’d out ice trucks or third row performance suvs for that.

Owning a Corolla and a crv for many years basically subsidized the R1s.

If electric works for you and solar does too, when there was (and will be a tax credit) you can save. Yes the vehicles depreciate fast. But for a buy-and-hold for at least ten years person like me, early depreciation doesn’t matter.

All good
Sometimes this business is maddening 😉

You are spot on regarding CNY. 👍🏻

I was asked if I wanted to drive it as a demo. I declined immediately! LoL

They are sharp trucks. The range a plus. You pay for it though. GM has been in the ev game since the beginning. Kicking the snot out of Ford and they did it quietly. They may be the vendor that enlightens skeptical people of the advantages... At least that if what my gut says. My gut also says rivian is going to make it.
