HVAC: What's best for cold climates?

Got the heat pump on yesterday.

I'm curious about how it will perform. It's supposed to "work" down to 10 degrees.

Seems like a good time to test it. It's 20 degrees. I turned the propane off and moved the heat pump up from 64 to 68 at 5 pm.

It took two hours to raise the house to 68. I just turned it up to 70, see how that goes.

My heat pump has been very noisy all winter.. My fingers were crossed it would make it. The pad it's sitting on heaved, it's no longer level. Anyone with experience with them think that could be the cause?

Noisy is bad it means you're compressor is being stressed is it possible you're low on refrigerant

There's definitely a learning curve with these things. Plus they seem a bit wonky in that they take time to react to the changing of the thermostat. Overall, I'm very pleased with mine. Keep in mind my house is very small.

My understanding is it's measured by pressure, so you'd need someone who knows how to do that. Could be completely wrong but I think I remember that.

I did some googling. It's probably 15 years old and never serviced. Probably needs some TLC

The ground close to the house won’t freeze but a few feet further will . Also when they defrost the water drains into the ground around the pad. Re level it in spring, It’s good to have several inches of gravel so the water can drain.
