Long time lurker and infrequent poster here, I just found out that I'm being transferred to eastern Idaho for work (Idaho Falls/Pocatello area). Do you guys have any advice for what the good ski areas are out there? Here I my main areas were Gore, Magic, and Whiteface (aside from last year where I went to McCauley a bunch of times).

Aside from the well known places out there like Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee, it seems like there's some other decent ones like Pebble Creek, Kelly Canyon, and Maverick. I'm especially curious about Maverick, there's not a lot about it online but from what I've seen it looks really good.

Check out Lost Trail. Great BC in Stanley. Enjoy the hot springs, especially Gold Bug.

Where have you skied out west?

JH is a destination resort. GT has quite a different feel. Helps a lot if you take the time to learn the mountain with visibility before venturing out during a powder storm. Not many sections with plenty of trees to help navigate when it's snowing and/or foggy.

The Indy Pass has several locations in Idaho, but they're on the western side of the state.

If not too personal: what kind or work do you do? Are you excited about the move? Have family? If so what do they think?

Pocatello is a central location with access to some great skiing withing a few hours. Pebble Creek is about 20 miles south of Pocatello and is big by Eastern standards (2200 vertical feet and 1100 acres).

Of that small bunch, hands down its Pebble Creek, I tried it out a few seasons ago and has consistent top to bottom pitch and a lightly gladed bowl. Snow is variable however and the open bowl areas can get cooked. It has open gates to access OB areas further up and along the ridgeline. Throw in a stop at Lava Hot Springs one exit south and you got yourself a perfect day.

What he says is the gospel truth , when it snows .

I’ve always heard that Pebble Creek is a rad little mountain.

Snowking (the King, to locals) right in Jackson is an awesome town hill too btw.
