I am looking for resources in the Adks for someone new to back country skiing. Any suggestions for guides or any other resources?

I'm not super familiar with the daks for BC but the BETA group manages a bunch of the summer and winter trails in that neck of the woods. Might be able to gain some insight through here, https://www.betatrails.org/conditions. Also from my understanding the daks skew a bit more towards advanced mountaineering when compared with Vermont. Do you enjoy type II fun, like the kinda stuff that you may or may not look back on as enjoyable?

GSM what kind of skiing are you imagining?

I would recommend the Mountaineer in Keene for both. Tony Goodwin’s Guide to The Classics is a good start. There is a book on slide skiing that is somewhat deliberately scant. Most downhill objectives in the High Peaks involve long xc tours. Best to become familiar and happy with that first.

Probably both.

Garnet Hill in North River offers both back country ski lesson and rentals, sometimes a giuded tour can be arranged. The Siamese Ponds Wilderness has about 85 miles of trail half of it skiable, Botheration Pond loop is a beginner / intermediate trail about 7and 1/2 miles, Old Farm Clearing is a 3 mile out and back starting at the parking lot at the end of Old Farm road.

Open up the back door. Kick them in the butt on the way out and tell them to be home before the street lights come on. Lol
That's what was done to us on 11th Mountain. I know my grandparents side of that like the back of my hand. It was an incredible playground.
