Whistler Blackcomb Conditions

Conditions on Thursday were a mixed bag but overall very enjoyable! An excellent opening weekend was followed by an atmospheric river event that brought rain all the way to the summits. However, some light accumulations since then have improved conditions considerably. With a big storm coming in this evening, W/B should be in good shape going in the back-half of December.

Coverage in the alpine is apparently excellent for this time of year. If only more of the avalanche debris was covered?

Looking at Whistler from Xhiggy's.

Peak-2-Peak always impresses.

This posting in the gondola reveals how the locals feel about their corporate overlord. ?

The rolling, low-angle terrain of Emerald skied well.

The terrain in Symphony did NOT ski well; though it should be excellent after this next storm cycle.

Thanks for starting this thread!

W/B received a much needed reset this week, with recent snowfall finally burying the hardpack/ice that's been a persistent feature since mid-January. Anything off-piste had been unskiable for the most part due to repeat freeze-thaw cycles and a lack of new snow, but conditions have improved significantly—at least above mid. I'm looking forward to spending less time on the groomers this month!

Nice!

I need to renew my passport and get back to W/B. This remains my favorite ski picture of all time. Me and my tracks in the Musical Bumps.

Is this Spanky's?

Yup! At the top of the bootpack.

The second photo is Diamond Centre (which is just beyond the sign posts in the center of the first photo). The third is at the bottom of Ruby looking towards the Blackcomb glacier.

After a brief pause, the parade of storms is back on with light to moderate snow in the forecast for most days this week. I’ll definitely be taking advantage of what could be the last week of winter conditions.

Sunday was great. I spent most of the day in Body Bag Bowl as part of my AST-1 where there was a surprising amount of untracked snow—especially considering its proximity to the boundary.
