Wearable Cameras Skiing & MT Biking?

Since the Gear thread does not seem to get much traffic I am posting this here.

My grandson has a birthday in a couple of weeks. I had toyed with the idea of getting a wearable camera for myself... for skiing.
But the timing seems right for me to get the camera for him. Does not need to be expensive or the highest quality.
Will be or use in skiing and mountain biking !

Looking for these features... (I think?)
WIFI connection to download. Hope to avoid the USB download cables.
Wearable and or helmet attachable
Connect to handle bars is a must have?
4K video? minimum of 64mb card, maybe 128? Audio.
Remote start? Wrist strap? Simple to operate.
My budget is under $100 since it will likely be broken or lost.

Should I be looking for GoPro knockoff in rectangle box shape?
Or would one of the vertical lanyard hanging versions be simpler? Durable?

Thank you.

There are some AKASO models on Amazon which might have many of the features you want. You can get it in a bundle with a variety of mount options for about $70.

I own one an older one and it was pretty good for the money. I now have a GoPro Hero10 which is obviously a lot nicer. But video quality of the Akaso is very, very good.

Anyway the biggest pita with any of these video camera's is editing the video. With the GoPro you can use an app right on your phone. With Akaso you're pretty much on your own to get your own video editing software and you better have a fairly powerful computer to edit. But if you aren't looking to edit and just take action videos and stills the Akaso is really a great value.

As for memory, go with 128-256M. These files get huge fast especially at 4K. I had better luck keeping videos shorter in duration so you could handle download the files and work with them more efficiently.

Should we just have one forum for everything? (Don't answer I'm not serious).

Since the Gear Forum is for gear related questions and discussions, I am moving this to the Gear Forum.

Always remember Rule #1 in the Forum Guidelines.

FYI, most regular posters use New Posts to see what's been happening lately, so it doesn't really matter whether or not a given sub-forum has more or less threads compared to other sub-forums. It helps to have stuff categorized when looking for stuff in the future.

Thank you. AKASO was one I was considering. If your still following... Is there any advantage to the dual screen models? Front screen possibly for selfie type alignment? Downside... I assume some people might not appreciate knowing they are on camera. But I assume the front screen can be turned off. Can you use cameras for skiing without the waterproof case for underwater work?

No you definitely need the clear case for waterproofness on that Akaso. As with mine the mounting occurs on the clear case, which makes the sound quality not so great. Not sure about the front screen as mine did not have one. Mine was purchased in 2017.

For a bit more the AKASO Brave 7 is able to be mounted without the protective case and comes with some accessories.
