Ski Day 14: Neve woke up with an ear infection this morning, so Gore was off the agenda. Zelda graciously offered to pack the car, while I got out on skinny skis, to get a little exercise on the fringe of the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.
There really is only one ski in the woods for us, when cover is thin and time is short. I've taken these pictures a million times, but I never get tired of them...
The Old Hooper Mine
The New Mine from the Old Mine
The Lodge
The ski along ridge between the mine and William Blake Pond is special to me. It's wide open, you can see off both sides of the ridge, and it's a jumping of spot for great adventures on the Garnet Hills No time for those adventures today, but a great ski none-the-less.
The Ridge
There was six inches of beautiful sparkly snow on top of a solid, if somewhat thin base. The Beaver Meadow above William Blake Pond is the outer limits of what I would consider the "front country"...
I did go a few hundred yards beyond the end of the pond, just to feel like I was "out there." It's a little arbitrary as the entire ski was peaceful and silent.
I really love all the skiing I do. I get just as excited tooling around through the trees in the Siamese as I do leaping over soft bumps on a steep lift served run. The quiet solitude is delicious.
