Here's the latest news for WY22 over Teton Pass. The section that collapsed June 8 is being called the Big Fill. The temporary detour should be open by July. The detour is essentially next to the old roadbed. So once it's finished, drivers won't really think of it as a detour in the standard sense.

WYDOT issued a press release late last week. There are photos and videos on the WYDOT webpage about the Big Fill slide.

Happy to report that the Big Fill detour opened on June 28. The speed limit is 20 mph because of how sharp the curve had to be. I doubt the commuters who live in Victor care given that going around the long way takes 1.5 hours instead of 30 minutes.

The new section of the road is roughly 600 feet long, with a steeper grade of 11.2% and a sharper curvature. Highway 22’s steepest grade is typically 10%. With those road conditions and the active construction site, the speed limit will be reduced to 20 mph through the area.

Impressive speed.

If that didn't work, all the wealthy Jackson residents should have pooled some money for a helicopter commute service to get the help over from Victor.

Locals are happy that the detour didn't take long to build. WYDOT is taking lots of videos using drones. They make pictures and videos easily available on the WYDOT website.
