Got my first taste of Tamarack in Idaho today. I liked it. Perfect spring skiing. A bit firm in the morning but groomers were good from the start. Most of the mountain softened as the day progressed. Really couldn't call it crowded considering it's Saturday. Longest wait at the base lift was less than 2 minutes. Never needed a liftie to manage that lift line. People rode up with strangers so most of the quad chairs had 3-4 people. Met plenty of people from the Boise area. Also had a lift ride conversation with a snowboarder dude from Greensboro, NC (his sister married an Idahoan) who came after spending a week skiing freshies at Copper.
My crew this trip includes my North Country School schoolmate, Albuquerque Bill, and a couple of Ski Divas who are cautious intermediates. We are sharing a condo in the Tamarack Village, which is very convenient for skiing and eating at a resort restaurant when we feel like it. We'll ski Tamarack and Brundage using the Indy Pass for a few more days.
Between the four of us, we checked out a wide range of trails off all the lifts today. I started with the long green from the top of the base lift called Tamarack to make sure my Diva friends would like it. I took them up once the snow had softened. Bill spent time in the morning on the upper mountain lift called Summit. He had a ramen bowl at the newly opened mid-mountain lodge for an early lunch at 11:15. The Divas opted to eat stuff we had in our condo. In the afternoon, since Bill and I bumped into each other off the Wildwood lift, we checked out the Grove. Turned out the snow had softened nicely on the lower section.
I finished the day with a fun top-to-bottom run on Bliss (used to be Double Blue, now just Blue), which is a groomer 1.8 miles long. Then had a free S'more given out by Mountain Ambassadors (red jackets) by the fire pit at the base next to the ski school bell. Had ridden up with an Ambassador on the first lift ride who provided plenty of info and suggestions about where to ski today. He told us about the S'mores at 3:00.
