Stowe Conditions

Since I couldn’t find a stowe thread, here goes.

Everything groomed, but the groomers we skied this morning were the best I have skied in the east in years. There is not a ton of terrain open, but the trails still held up pretty well after early morning—provided you stuck to the sides. Underneath the snow though, holy heck blue ice.

it is pretty crowded, but in skiing from 8-1:30 I probably only waited a total of 15 or 20 minutes. however, the trails were a bit overloaded at times. No line at gondola, and to me it felt weird being in such close quarters with unmasked strangers.

the drive in, which is usually 15 min, was still 15 min. Last weekend when it snowed the traffic was backed up to town and it took us 26 min.

we haven’t had parking problems, but we get there early. At 11am the lot definitely looked scary from the lift.

I realize, given the insane day ticket price, that there are not many day/weekend trippers to Stowe on this board, so I will only sporadically chime in with conditions . If anyone has any questions about Stowe I would also be more than happy to answer.

Thanks for posting this Dan.

We had one in the old forum, it didn't get used too much, but we needed it.

Heck yeah. Stowe is badass.
How long have you been there Danno?
Yeah we love Stowe. We have been up for all of the weekends before the last. We took off Christmas weekend and just got up here yesterday and will be skiing to either Saturday or Sunday.

Days in end of 2021 followed the same pattern. The groomers were great in the morning, then super crowded and scraped off, giving ways to some sweet bumps and less crowds in the later pm.

2022 has kind of sucked, although there are no crowds. Jan 1 was bad, but skiable. Jan 2 was “close to terrible” according to my daughter. Today was average, but too cold to justify a full day of skiing. Was pretty though, here is a picture of the notch from the octagon lodge. Looks snowier than it is skiing.

Pretty good skiing today here. Groomers were good until late morning. There were a few bump trails as well (firm east coast style). I was also surprised that some woods were in play. The low angle ones were firm but fun. The steeper ones…I am glad my skis are not expensive.

No crowds due to the cold, but the temp wasn’t actually that bad as there was low wind.

Amazing day here. Ropes dropping all over the place. The early morning was amazing and nobody was here! I was still getting untracked lines on my second run.

The woods were really good— some of the locals were calling them low tide—guess they haven’t skied the end of barkeater. Super soft, both the steeps and low angle stuff.

The fourrunner, Stowe’s main lift, did get crowded around 10, but there was always only a small line for the lookout double, which brings you to almost the same spot, albeit at 1/4 the speed. At that point my legs needed the break anyways.

Pretty good weekend.

Friday was really great; most terrain was open, not crowded, not too cold. There was a surprise few inches of super fluffy snow.

Saturday was cold, but good skiing. I only skied half a day so the crowds didn’t really bother me, but the parking lots seemed crazy on the way out.

Sunday was cold and wind swept, place was empty. Skiing was good if you could handle hard bumps.
