With rain forecast for today, Jason and I took advantage of dry early autumn conditions yesterday for my second visit to Sterling Forest, just north of the state line in Tuxedo, NY. My first time there was with a big group of bikers who rode so quickly that I struggled to keep up; however, with me dictating a more leisurely pace and very few other riders there, we were better able to appreciate the excellent job of trail design that the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference did a few years back.

There are a couple dozen nicely designed wood and stone bridges:

They recently started work on the new Augusta trail, which will add two additional miles to the existing eight.

This map shows the new trail on the left side. Jason mentioned that they're also planning to connect Sterling Forest with Ringwood's well-regarded network just to the west in New Jersey.

New Cooper Union reroute in Ringwood is the best trail in NJ right now if ya ask me, looped it twice on my ride yesterday. Have you seen any of the photos of the new work going on at Sterling?

Rode this yesterday
What a great trail
Ringwood and sterling are now legit destination rides
Thanks for all the great work

Stolen from another forum and not my photos, admittedly I've only got about 2 hours of volunteer time in on this section. I spent my August and September putting work into the new Cooper Union reroute at Ringwood and then my October got taken over by a "real work" deadline and I feel like I haven't had a chance to look up from my email or cell phone until now. Hope to get some more time out in Sterling now that I'm getting into a slower period of work.
