With rain forecast for today, Jason and I took advantage of dry early autumn conditions yesterday for my second visit to Sterling Forest, just north of the state line in Tuxedo, NY. My first time there was with a big group of bikers who rode so quickly that I struggled to keep up; however, with me dictating a more leisurely pace and very few other riders there, we were better able to appreciate the excellent job of trail design that the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference did a few years back.
Heading up to the power line:
Grippy east-coast slick rock:
There are a couple dozen nicely designed wood and stone bridges:
They recently started work on the new Augusta trail, which will add two additional miles to the existing eight.
This map shows the new trail on the left side. Jason mentioned that they're also planning to connect Sterling Forest with Ringwood's well-regarded network just to the west in New Jersey.
