Silvermine was small even for a feeder hill. Nice spot to skin a little and practice transitions though.

Seems like somebody has been beavering around the tow line

It maybe could use a little more. Maybe

I hit Silvermine twice last year, one morning in mid December was fun and I even ran into a few other people skinning. On the splitboard the hike up is just a bit too short to justify the transition time. I am planning on buying one of these

for weekday small storms this winter.

Gets a little crowded and postholed out with the sledders but considering how close it is for me I can justify it for an unexpected storm. I wish there were still remnants of the old hill in Stony Point, I believe that had a bit more vert than Silvermine.

The hill above exit 15 I believe. I didn’t grow up around here but my BIL used to go there

Storm chasing wasn't in the cards for me today or yesterday, that said I'm not even sure where I would have chased it to. Apparently our little corner of NE NJ got some of the most snow in the state at 4"-6". Got up to Silvermine with the powsurfer this morning around 11. I was fully prepared to see the hill sledded off to grass, I was surprised to still find some untracked patches of fresh in the mix. Snow was still powdery as the temps stayed low over night into today.

After a few attempts on the main hill I determined the tide was too low to properly surf considering the pitch of the hill. Scrubbing speed can be difficult on a fully convex base. Fortunately Silvermine has the old beginner area with some mellower pitch and more interesting terrain, I rode that area till I had sweat icicles forming in my hair from the hiking up.

I am fully addicted to this powsurfer, it makes mountains out of molehills and ankle deep epic. Its not easy but I couldn't give it a rest and after heading back closer to home went to a sledding hill to work on my technique.

I spent hours sliding hiking and repeating, its amazing what a little snow, a mellow pitch and something to stand on can do for ya.

Got some quick early morning laps in at Silvermine, Harriman area got about a foot. Snow was crunchy and slow, main run was mostly packed in but enough untracked on the sides to make it down comfortably on the snow surfer.

I have to meet you there one day with my K2 Tree Splitter. Thought about it today, but went to Thunder Ridge.
