We are looking for information on seasonal rentals next year near Gore. We are just starting to look, but would like 3 br, 1.5 baths or more. For our family, 2 bdr would be fine but we would like to have the option of having friends up. If we can't find something bigger that would work, 2 beds and 1 bath would be fine.

Bonus points for pet friendly, but from some searching it looks like the better stuff is not pet friendly. We have a crate-trained Cavapoo puppy (my littlest girl is super cute).

We could be flexible on dates, but would like to try to get something that runs Dec 27 to Mar 6.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have started using VRBO and AirBNB and googling 'Gore seasonal rentals'.

Alternative area would be southern Vermont near, dare I say it, Mount Snow.

Best,
D

I can't help you except to say that we also got a Covid cavapoo. We also have an older pit bull, who's kind of raising her. So she's got the nature of a cavapoo and the nurture of a pittie.

Yo guys and gals - maybe someone should start a thread on what we do to ski, including travel plans, rentals, motels, distance, drive time, etc. Some interesting stuff here. I know our fearless leader seems to have a 4-5 hour trip up to Gore based on his posts.

We are going to test near weekly four-hour runs next season.

Let's see if my wife still talks to me after that (deal is she does not have to come every week, but she won't stop me and the kids. Kids are somewhat less enthusiastic but they agreed to pretty much come every week). I will likely put the kids in the 6 week Gore program. 12 weeks is a bit to much to jump to. My son has done the 8 or 10 week seasonal at Belle (I think he was 7 or 8?) and progressed a ton in that year. My daughter holds strong opinions, and pretty much only wants to learn from one particular instructor or me (I try to avoid trying to teach her for preference for leaving it to the pros).

Maybe I'll post something in Woodstove or off topic. But I kind of find the machinations people go through who are not in the mountains weirdly interesting. Maybe because I do it : ) Of course, there is also just moving to the mountains, and I know there have been threads on that debate.

Hope everyone has a safe, powder-filled holiday week coming up. We are going to be in the Cats for a few days. I plan to ski a couple days from like 8:30 (?) to 10. No secret here that the ORDA lifts tend to open earlier than 9 once they are cleared by ski patrol.

We went through the same thing 10+ years ago with our kids. We had a hard time finding a season long rental near Gore, so we rented a townhouse in Lake George for 2 seasons. We finally got sick of the 40 min drive each way (our kids were in the season-long program at Gore) so we bought a place in North Creek. Our drive is 4.5 hours each way in perfect conditions, which can be a real drag on Friday nights. Our kids loved season long program - they made a lot of friends and became great skiers. When they became teenagers, we came up less frequently, as there were too many school conflicts. Now that they are in college, CMR and I are not bound by school schedules; only CMR's work schedule (I can now work from anywhere). I still miss the great family time that we had in those early years though.

The local realtors sometimes have leads on season long rentals near Gore.

Haha. Neither really describes me. :)

A foundational force behind NYSB.

The weather pages were originally designed for a flatlander trying to figure out what days off to take. And if you've read my front page stuff, I almost always start out with some aspect of the logistical battle. It's my life, so that is what I write about.

Did this for 15 seasons starting when my kids were 3 & 7 respectively. A little over 4 hours each way (sometimes 5 or more depending on traffic and weather) to Lake Placid and back, almost every weekend from Thanksgiving through mid-March ... only skipped a few weekends over those years. (My wife doesn't ski, so she was a real trooper to put up with it!!!)

It definitely required some thought and planning. We all became very well trained to not need bathroom breaks. Most of the time, we would take dinner in the car with us so we wouldn't have to stop along the way. Since we were going to our own place, we didn't need to pack any clothes or anything, so it was simply a matter of getting our cats in their carrier, gathering up our laptops and electronics, and getting on the road.

In the early years, I had a small 12-volt powered TV/VCR combo that I would put on the console between the front seats so the kids could watch videos. That got replaced by little portable DVD players, so the kids didn't have to watch the same thing. It got easier as technology improved ... with iPads and internet access. We also learned to leave later in the evening, rather than earlier. This enabled us to eat dinner before we left, and resulted in less traffic on the roads. It was easier for the kids (and my wife) to fall asleep on the ride when we left later, though it made it tougher for me to stay awake while I was driving!!

The last couple of years, it really started to become a drag. I started to hate that drive!!! In the end, I think it was well worth the effort.

Good luck with your travels next season!!!

You're up early, getting ready to head to the mountain in about 30 minutes. Going to be a cold day! Hope the lift lines are short.

Unfortunately ... I'm always up very early!!! Yes ... definitely going to be cold today ... -15 in Lake Placid right now. Assuming the Lookout Lift is running, that will hopefully spread the lines out a bit, but I'd bet the gondola line will be really long.
