When was the last time you saw this bite someone?
Return-to-office mandates triggered this post. Washington Post employees are gonna light their pants on fire over their requirement to come back to the office 5 days of the week.
No problem if a boss wants to say everyone has to come in again. However, they are supposed to already understand the title of this thread because they are the boss and the bar is someplace above there in my world. Working from home is a benefit, including direct financial benefit in transportation costs and commuting time. Boss needs to involve money in this discussion.
If you waited 2-3 years to require them to come back in, why not have a bit of fucking patience and wait until it is time to discuss raises and salaries. Then it is simple and nobody gets upset. "Here is the salary for full-time office work, here is the salary if you want to work from home. We love you no matter what and you are free to choose whichever."
Shit handling of a decision where there were potential wins even IMHO. Those wins being that some employees would agree to keep working next year with no raise and even be happy about it.
