Thought I would post a thread to update changes to our weather center. It's (almost) all based on NWS data and every year they change and improve, and we try to incorporate new features.

I say "almost" above because there is another source of really great info. There is a guy named Earl Barker who has a website:

It's ancient, and really hard to navigate, but there is some GREAT stuff in there. This data comes from all the various models, and I'm not quite sure how he does it. If a link ever breaks, you can EMAIL Earl and he explains why it broke, where you can find the info now, or when it will be fixed. It's really kind of amazing. Maybe Jason knows more about this guy, I just stumbled on his site years ago.

I'm not sure this is new, but I just found it. It's a 168 hour (7 day) loop of GFS snowfall accumulation for the northeast:

168 Northeast snowfall accumulation loop

I'm going to include it on our New York weather page, either in the main content area or in the blue sidebar. Right now it is on both:

Click the image to load the loop.

I figured out how to generate a 240 hour (10 day) loop using Earl's data (thanks Earl!)

It's near the bottom of the NY Weather Page:

I swapped out the 168 for the 240 hour. Click on the map to see the animation.

On the NEW YORK WEATHER page...

I added some additional images to detail the very short term forecast (next 12 hours) to help with DRIVING decisions.

It's the top row. (When on the weather page) click on images to enlarge them and page through them.

That page ^^ is getting pretty intense. I use it all the time, my starting point.

Thinking about removing one element from it to reduce complication, but I don't want to get rid of anything.

You guys who liked that ^^ post. Is that something you'd really use? Those first four images?

I've used it several times in the last two days.

ETA: Those images will never totally line up with the time listed beneath. They can be 3 or even 6 hours off, depending on when NWS updates them.

Environment Canada made a change to the way the report data, the Province specific maps are gone.

We merged the Ontario and Quebec pages into an Eastern Canada page. It is a work in progress. Thank you @Sick Bird Rider for your help.

Any input on how to improve it is welcome here.

@jasonwx or anyone

The GFS 240 hour maps I was using in the weather center are no longer being updated:

Awesome but no longer updated GRIB2.com map

I have searched high and low for replacements.

Any ideas?
