As of the end of the day on Sunday nothing will be open in Michigan. So with that and my kids birthday is Tuesday the 6th I decided to make the 4 hour drive one way to end out season and celebrate her birthday the best way we could. Go skiing of course.
We left at roughly 5:30 in the morning and were booting up by 9:40 and the sun was out and it was around 42 degrees out
Nubs still had wall to wall coverage on their front hills with a good 2-3 feet in most places
Nubs had three sections, the main face, the south face and Pintail peak. The Pintail Peak was closed and some dirt was showing on the south face. But coverage was still good.
The snow was firm in the morning and the Michigan sun did it’s fine and softened up the snow by 11-12 o’clock. The snow had become a very nice almost cream cheese like snow. Still firm enough to not be mashed potatoes, but not rock hard. Nubs Nob prides themselves on their snowmaking, all guns are made on site and they have at least 1.2 snow guns for skiable acres, and some of that os glades so it’s probably more like 1.5-2 guns. Nubs over achieved on their snow for being April 4th
All day we never waited more than one person for a lift and Nubs also had all lifts for the terrain open. Mean while across the valley Boyne Highlands with still amble snow has closed for the season last weekend
So this marks the end of my season. As usual we have made a mountain out of a molehill. I want to thank everyone at NYSkiblog for making a transplant from to NY to a Michigan flatlander feel at home on this page. Can’t wait for next season
