Lately Dangerboy has not been into skiing at all. Over winter break, his pattern has been to live nocturnally. He was able to get hours at his part time job, which is good, but after getting home late at night he has been either playing Nintendo into the wee hours with his friends or just doomscrolling on his phone. He has been more or less useless during daylight hours. Three or four times, I made plans to get him on skis but he was just unable to get out of bed in time. It was very frustrating. Worse, his sleep patterns were creating a lot of parental angst in the context of starting his second semester of college next week. Since his last shift at work was on Wednesday, we decide to do a hard reset on his sleep patterns. On Friday we dragged him out of bed and kept him moving all day. No laying in bed. He was like the walking dead but it worked. He crashed hard around nine o’clock and got a good night of sleep. This morning getting him up was no problem. In honor of his return to the land of the living, I let him choose the hill and he settled on Mohawk in Connecticut. It may seem like an odd choice but he values short lift lines so I understood.

We got there at the crack of 10 AM. Mohawk is technically in New England so of course there is a covered bridge.

Dangerboy was on some new to him skis. I’m not sure he appreciates what an upgrade they are.

It was busy day but, as expected, wait times were short

The new skis worked out really well. We skied everything that Mohawk had to offer.

The hill actually had more open than in past visits. I think this might have been the first time we skied this trail called Pinnacle. It was really nice, I like narrow twisty trails.

Mohawk is a really impressive operation. Yes, it’s small but everything is well thought out. They do a good job grooming and the lifts seem to work the way they’re supposed to. Nice lodge, easy parking. They have a lot going for them. They are very uphill friendly too. Lots of locals seem to take advantage of it.

Love me some Mohawk. I hear you on the frustration. I’ve been trying to rally Team Turtle to get up there with our Indy Passes. Might have to roll solo and pull a bike to uphill mission at some point. Maybe when it warms up a little bit.

That restaurant is really cool. It’s fun going over it on the chair and looking right at the chimney. I’ve never seen it open. We were there at night last time so maybe it’s a day time or weekend thing. I remember looking into it at some point and saw you can reserve it for private events. That would be a fun place for a party.

Agree on the quality of the operation. Whenever I’ve been it seems like they’ve had their act together. Thanks for the report. Looking forward to going soon.

I suspect we were taking our boots off as you were putting yours on. Only had time for a few laps yesterday. Glad you had a good day. You timed it just right as the conditions this past week have been particularly great. You also caught it on the tail end of a big snow making push. 32 days so far this year at Mohawk with lots of memorable days. We love it there and are glad we decided to move away from SKI3 and support our local Indy.

So they could see them coming, allegedly.
Your search skills are better than mine. From the link above:

From 1,683 foot Mohawk Mountain, on a clear day, the view is literally “forever”. Colonial historians note the use of the high promontory by the Tunxis and Paugussett Indians who used smoke signals to warn local tribes of the approach of the dreaded Mohawks from the north and west. Although tribal wars terminated centuries ago, the name “Mohawk Mountain” has carried forward.
