With the ice encroaching, we decided it was time to head north where the chances of a pure snow event were greater. McCauley was the choice. About 5" at the base when we arrived at 9. It snowed all day, very small flakes with the occasional burst of a bit larger ones. Everything skied pretty good. It wasn't quite enough snow to completely put the ice beneath out of reach however, so the natural trails had to be skied with care. Plenty of fresh powder though. Low angle woods were skiable but without much base. Steeper glades were closed for good reason, they looked deadly for anyone foolish enough to ignore the ropes. All those boulders usually buried were only coated in snow.
Good mental health day. My first and only true powder day this season. I'm officially a senior there now, so a whopping $30 for a lift ticket. The couple times I went to the men's room in the basement, I felt a little sad passing the tuning shop. Gone are Louie and his Olympic tune sign. A little of the charm of McCauley went with him, as well as the $25 stone grinds and hot waxes, now $50, still cheap, but twice what Louie charged.
