Jay Peak Conditions

I skied at Jay on Friday, Saturday and today. Conditions were spring-like but surprisingly firm and fast. Friday was sunny, breezy and mildly busy. Saturday was sunny, windy, and a gong show of people (not the resort's fault, GM Steve Wright said it was their second-busiest day this season). The tram was on wind hold till about 2.30, which didn't help. It sucks up a lot of tourists. Today was cloudy, more windy and the Bonnie and tram were on wind hold all day. We were surprised at the lack of people there today, my nephew and got 11 runs in before lunch, including a coffee break. Today was FAST snow, we got here early thinking we'd be getting first tracks on fresh cord. Nope. First tracks were on a semi frozen solid surface with groomer tracks. Things improved as the day went on and the lack of sun kept the snow in good shape. Lots of snow loss on natural snow trails like the River Quai and Exhibition over the three days but the trails with snowmaking should weather the incoming moisture event.

Jay is the king of wind-holds, especially in March. As for quiet Sundays, most of the city-slickers leave early as it takes most of the day to get to wherever they're from.

Didn't have a res to cancel. I had a season pass paid for during the previous administration burning a hole in my ski jacket, a free place to stay, family to visit & ski with and no reason to spend money on anything but food and wine. On top of that, Jay Peak is very loyal and supportive of Canadians and every American I talked to apologized on behalf of their country. Overall, a positive experience. I did see two two good ol' boys in their maga uniforms on rental equipment on Saturday, they looked so out of place it was unbelievable. Hopefully a patroller found a reason to clip their tickets (or whatever you do with an RFID card).
