So who went ahead and got an Ikon pass for 2020-21? Or still thinking about it?

Just got an email reminder that the time to make a decision related to Adventure Assurance is coming up. The default is All Locations. I think the only reason to choose Option 2 is if someone has Ikon in order to have unlimited access to an Alterra resort that is local to them.

I have Full Ikon. Planning to use it at JH, Taos, and Alta if all my trips go according to plan.

Here's a list of Ikon locations sorted by region as I think about geography. Alterra resorts allow unlimited access even with Ikon Base. What's new for 2020-21 is that JH and Aspen require a $150 add-on cost for Ikon Base, plus Mt. Bachelor and Windham were added. The partners include MCP resorts owned by Boyne Resorts (Big Sky, Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Loon) or Powdr (Killington, Mt. Bachelor). Boyne also has Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands on Ikon.

There is a lot of overlap between Ikon and the MCP for destination resorts. For Alta/Snowbird the Ikon functions as a combined pass (5/7 days but can ski both every day), while the MCP keeps them separate (2 days at Alta, 2 days at Snowbird).

IKON Pass in N. America, as of August 2020 - Alterra in bold

California: Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort
Washington: Crystal, The Summit at Snowqualmie
Montana: Big Sky
Wyoming: Jackson Hole
Utah: Deer Valley Resort, Alta/Snowbird, Solitude, Brighton
Colorado: Aspen/Snowmass, Arapahoe Basin, Steamboat, Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Eldora

Maine: Sugarloaf, Sunday River
New Hampshire: Loon
Vermont: Stratton, Killington, Sugarbush

New York: Windham
West Virginia: Snowshoe

Michigan: Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands

Quebec, Canada: Tremblant
Ontario, Canada: Blue Mountain
Alberta, Canada: Lake Louise, Sunshine, Mt. Norquay (SkiBig3)
British Columbia, Canada: Revelstoke, Cypress

EDIT 8/30: Windham is not owned by Alterra

Is there a deadline before the price increases? I have been holding off.

Hard to say. The price is $1049 now. Last year the price went up mid-October. Sales ended in mid-December 2019 I think.

I and my ski buddies went ahead and bought using the $200 renewal discount in the spring. With the rollover option to 2021-22, wasn't much of a risk in May. Back then people were going to have to decide about deferring before mid-Dec. But now have all season if someone hasn't used their Ikon at all.

Forgot that Ikon came up with a 4-day version. $429 for adults 23+ and $359 for ages 13-22. Idea is a couple of weekends or one short trip. The industry figured out a few years ago that there are a fair number of people who only ski 3-4 days a season.

The Epic Day Pass is available for 1-7 days, but there are perks that kick in at 4 days.

Yeah, I missed out on the renewal because I didn’t get an ikon pass last year (after getting one for 2018-2019). Plus, I didn’t really know what I was going to do for a pass this year.

I’ll probably buy at the end of September or so.

Where are you thinking of using it?
Killington & Sugarbush, mostly. Maybe a bit of Stratton. Probably a long weekend at Sugarloaf.

Then out west at Winter Park, Alta/Snowbird, Squaw (or whatever its name ends up being), Mammoth, etc.

Where would you stay for Winter Park? I have friends with Ikon planning a trip flying to Denver in December. Winter Park is on their list because none of them have skied there yet. The friend still working needs to use up vacation before the end of the year. :)
