Not lift served but the Hudson Highlands have great conditions right now

Hook Mountain State Park has some nice natural glades and about about 350ft-400ft of vertical on north facing slopes. I skinned it twice 2/8, 2/2 when snowpack was at least 25" or more. LOTS of rocks and some old stone walls from former pasture that I imagine would require at least a 20" base to safely navigate. Great terrain otherwise, even ran into another splitboarder when out!

People think that the NYC suburbs are engulfed in sprawl. Hook Mountain has great views of the Tappan Zee bridge, and on a clear day, you can see the city.

I started hiking up there more frequently since moving to Closter a few years ago. This fall I started wandering around off trail more thinking about how cool it would be to snowboard so close to home. Never would have thought at that time I would be riding back there a few months later. If this collapse in the Polar Vortex keeps happening year after year, I might have to start quietly cutting some lines back there.

Sorry for hijacking the Plattekill Condition forum and thanks for giving this a new home. Since we've got a thread now I'll post an image dump from my day out on February 8th.

Skin track up, broken in because apparently I wasn't the only person with the idea.

Felt like I was at Plattekill with a different view at times.

Not fully in view in this photo but looking east towards Sing Sing.

What I imagine is a colonial road, pretty cool to skin across.

Transition complete.

Low angle but more than enough space to open it up, no speed checks required.

Cedars like this are one of my favorite parts of our local ecosystem.

Walked the road back to the car.

For anyone in Rockland/ Bergen County definitely worth checking out given the right conditions like what we had earlier this month. Happy to provide any beta for those looking to check it out.
