At 6:00am we headed out the door, breakfast burrito in hand, for my first ski day of the season and day number two for Evan.
Excitement running high as I have been ready to get back out on slopes compounding with the fact that I have never been to Holiday Valley. To make things “worse” I sat at my desk suffering from fomo this past Friday as @Robert, Alex, and @Evan took advantage of a spectacular opening day.
By 8:30 AM, we were loading onto the chair at Yodeler Lodge. Despite it being a weekend, the slopes were far less crowded than expected.
We were met with crisp, packed powder groomers under clear skies. Temperatures hovered around 34°F with steady wind gusts, keeping things cooler in true winter fashion.
We found untouched snow beneath the Morningstar chair, and as a first-time visitor, I was particularly impressed with the variety of trails and views.
Our favorite of the day? Yodeler for sure. But I also fell for the scenic, snow-covered tree-lined trails off Tannenbaum Express.
As the day progressed some clouds rolled in and temps neared 40°F, the snow became heavy and packed. With 25 trails open we still had plenty of fun. The early morning vibes—crisp air, fresh groomers, and minimal crowds—reminded me why we’re always team early bird!
Starting the season off at a new mountain was a treat, and I’m feeling optimistic about the winter ahead. Here’s to many more snowy days!
