A lurker just contacted me a week ago, asking why we don't do this. Like the way we do a closing date thread.

What is the source of this info sno? Is it you? :)

Here's the historical open/close for "major" resorts worldwide.

I wouldn't necessarily trust the opening dates. Some may be "projected dates" as opposed to what really happened. Things change based on the weather in both directions, either a delay or opening a week or so earlier.

OnTheSnow also has dates but they are usually based on the previous season. It's made pretty clear that the dates are estimated.

More interesting to know actual dates for a small region, such as NY or the southeast.

I just remember all of them that far back.

A lot of those aren't accurate, so I would probably not trust that site.

The "predictions" on skiing news websites are often generated from what can be gleaned from resort websites without human intervention. Even when a date was correct at some point, never know when the announced date didn't actually happen because Mother Nature either didn't cooperate or over-delivered snow in Oct-Nov.

Noticed that a few of the OpenSnow regional forecasters have added a section about opening dates.

OnTheSnow makes it easy to see Opening/Closing dates for a given state or region. They are very clear that the dates are "predications," which is still useful if someone just wants to know which resorts tend to open early compared to other resorts in the same region.

Here are my personal notes from 2021 for a few resorts that opened Thanksgiving weekend. Loon and Stratton had opening dates listed on an Ikon webpage. I have an oddball list of mountains that I check on to satisfy my own curiosity.
