I had originally planned to go to Whiteface today with my friend from work. But he slept through his multiple alarms and was running an hour late. Rather than arrive at Whiteface at 9:30 on a holiday weekend, we switched to plan B, which was Gore, arriving at about 8:10.

While the trails were mostly good in the morning, by lunchtime, it had gotten very crowded, and conditions had deteriorated significantly. We both thought it would be an early departure. However, a surprise opening of High Peaks at around 1 saved the afternoon. Lower Darby in particular was a full on powder run, which I had zero expectation of getting.

I also took my first rides in the new gondola cabins. The best thing is how smooth and quiet the ride is. The ski racks aren't great, but I still find them better than the old cabins. They were also running it faster than I've seen in recent years. I timed the ride at 7 minutes 45 seconds. They were still only loading 6 per cabin. I'm not sure when this became the norm, because I remember 10-12 years ago riding with 8 people many times.

Love it.

Please remind me - what is the way up to the top right now: gondi to pine knot to straight brook?

You can get to Straightbrook via gondola to Pine Knot. Or High Peaks via AE2 or Ruby to Wood In. Yesterday, Headwaters was not open, but that may have changed.

Great pics sno, and looks like an excellent day.
