Saturday, October 26th we headed to Ontario County Park in Naples NY to enjoy a beautiful fall morning at Gannett Hill.
With temperatures in the high 40s and bright sunshine, the fall foliage was breathtaking. Our group, including a golden, two-month-old baby, and a few friends from the Rochester area gathered to take in the view of the Bristol Hill valleys. Although beautiful year-round, the fall transformation creates a rainbow of leaves across the hills and valleys that is hard to beat! We walked a combination of the Finger Lakes and Black trails beginning at the "Jump Off" trail (the area's favorite ADA-compliant hiking trail/scenic overlook).
The overlook offers stunning views of the Bristol Hills showcasing the backside of Bristol Mountain to the north and the now closed, Ski Valley to the west. While Ski Valley is no longer operating, its trails are easily visible from the overlook. Ski Valley came to life in the 60s and ultimately closed in 2001. There have been local whispers of a revitalization, on and off throughout the past decade, however, the hill remains closed for now.
The park also offers a large mellow trail system of mountain biking, camping, a fishing pond, and more. Highly recommend a visit!
