Walk, is for walking.

Ski, is for skiing.

Ski in walk mode? not smart.

I tried it. By accident. Not pleasant. Uggg.

I skied all last season in walk mode, by accident I guess. I finally noticed when I was putting my boots away in May. Had a great year. Not claiming any cause and effect.

I was all over the place on Monday. Felt like I was learning to ski again. Had very little control compared to 3 weeks earlier on the exact same slope. I think now I know why. Probably also had more ice, but still.

What is this? A setting on the boot that can be changed?
Has to be particular boots. The first boots I bought were recreational boots designed to be comfortable for beginners with a flex of something like 60 or 70. Had a Walk/Ski switch on the back of the cuff. In Walk mode, the cuff was essentially cracked open so standing completely upright was possible..

I skied in Walk mode more than once after lunch when dealing with kids under age 8. Didn't matter much since I was skiing blue groomers at Massanutten. Later on I learned the advantages of doing a few runs with loose boots as a drill to check fore/aft balance.

Being able to ski well in loose boots is related to the earlier comment about "front of the boot, no matter what."

The Massanutten instructor I've worked with the most in the past 15 years did a 2-day PSIA clinic quite a while ago with unbuckled boots at Hunter. The clinic was on icy bump runs the entire time. That was before he was ready to take the Level 3 exams. Gave him a lot to work on afterwards in order to pass the Level 3 skiing exam.

I skied hut to hut in Colorado. The guides cut all the buckles off their boots except the bottom buckle. The never used them (when they were guiding us) so they did it to save weight.

What year was that?
