I thought I'd throw this out there... since I'm now divorced and living in an apartment.... any ideas where I could find / rent space for ski prep, hopefully in Morris County NJ? When I search for co-working space online, all the results are geared towards white collar startups.

@Harvey, if this isn't allowed, please remove. Thank you,

You've earned a little slack. Might move to the OT.

Sorry to hear of your divorce. I know too much about how that gose.

I've lived in an apartment for a long time now, and I've tried working in the kitchen and on a tarp in the living room, but outside on the deck is by far the best place becaue it completely eliminates the clean up problem. I can sharpen 2 pairs of skis in 15 minutes but only about 10 minutes outside time, so unless it's raining I'm good. You need to be organized to work outside in the winter. I have supports attached to the hand rail that stay in place all winter, and I need only 3 tools: a panzer file to cut back the sidewall, a coarse aluminum oxide stone to work down the shark bites and a Skivisions file guide with stones on the base and side edges. A couple of years ago I added a battery powered edge grinder which is faster than the Skivisions tool. I mostly gave up hot waxing (which in my case was always aspirational anyway) and carry liquid wax for the warmest days. I have portable bench for base work but it's too much to set up for simple sharpening. Base repairs are in the kitchen or outside on nice days.

Co-working space with good ventilation for waxing and soldering projects or maybe a shared 3D printer would be awsome, but I haven't found one. Maybe check out maker spaces in your area?

Hope this helps.

@Milo Maltbie I don't have a deck unfortunately. I need to impregnate ski bases for the season before getting out there. Hot waxing five coats of soft wax, then a layer of green; eight pairs of skis. The liquid waxes for nordic are mainly for racing and wouldn't be much use without the above mentioned prep.

Fluorocarbon liquids are a final touch for race prep and don't last very far on their own. I don't know about longevity of the new non-fluoro liquids. And I'll admit that spray-on klister is most tempting. I'll look at maker spaces. Thanks for that idea.

Peter what is "Co" in the thread title?

@Harvey there's co-working spaces here and there in NJ. One can rent a desk and share space with other self-employed or entrepreneurial people without the cost of renting an entire office.

@Peter Minde waxing is the hard part when you don’t have a good place to work. I used to put a movers blanket over the kitchen sink until the housekeeping supervisor found out about it. Now I just hot wax in the spring and liquid wax after that. That’s good enough for me for downhill but I get if you need to do better.
