My home ski hill finally got open. It was 60 and raining in Ann Arbor at 5:30am when my alarm went off. The forecast for Cadillac was rain changing to snow between 10 and Noon. On the 3.5 hour drive o had heavy rain in spots and 30-50mph wind gusts. But as I went north the temp continued to drip and was 39 and there was a light rain that lasted for two runs and we had one run of ice pellets before changing over to snow.
We had gotten pretty wet on the first two runs and the ice pellets hurt your face so we went in for the mandatory Arlos Bloody Mary and Caberfae’s French fires
With the change over to snow the wind picked up and the 2”-3” of snow that had fallen was blown off the top 1/3 of the main hill and it was very icy
The snow started coming down at a pretty good clip, too bad it was a wet heavy snow, but it was better than rain.
It was far from my best opening day of skiing, but I was still skiing. We have a warm up coming, but Caberfae should be ok. The runs that they have made snow on have 2-4 feet of snow on them. They chose not to open last weekend and during the week to just make snow on the core trails of the North Peak, I think o was the right decision. Looking forward to many more days of skiing this winter
