In March it will be 4 years since I’ve skied, no excuses just plain lazy. No one has pushed or urged me to go so like golfing by yourself I just watched the trip reports roll by. I did have a bud from NJ do a lower peninsula volume tour( Jaytrem) and I had dinner with him and could have skied the local molehills with him but lived off the successful UP trip with him in ‘22.
So the sun shone, the wife was up for a hour and half run each to Cadillac and the historic Caberfae, home to fellow Miskier and friend from the east side of the mitten.
The peaks felt different from my last visit primarily due to the east peak Dopp triple. A nice wide landing area within close vicinity to the 1561’ altitude decade old now sister Dopp triple.
The flow going to skiers left makes it feel longer and safer and going right allows entrance into the backcountry or the evergreen lined funnel cake. I rode up the 1561 with a unique gentleman who told me he was the hammer and said he out drove John Daly and Tiger and others and handled me his business card. Sure enough Jack Hamm was long drive champ several years.
Couple observations, all lifts except the 43 year old Riblet south peak repainted triple were manned by 2 lifties and a non stop yapping “greeter” to up the stoke.
No I did not go with the wife to Arlo’s for a BM as my birthday was still ahead of me. It was good to have the great grandma to be along for the ride on a slippery shaded M55 in the shade.
They were blowing all afternoon and there were some sketchy areas with the freeze thaw cycles but all in all a great comeback visit to Cabby.
The mind was 100% stoked but the now 67 year old bod let me know it has been neglected.
But ski pain is good pain.
My first reciprocal use of my first Mt Bohemia pass. A breeze. I did not see TJ , Tim or any Meyers. Minimal volume on a Thursday just the way I like it and getting lucky with a close in free parking spot. Good time.
