With the holiday weekend approaching, I headed to Bristol on Friday to get ahead of the crowds. Pulling into the parking lot before opening, I was surprised by how many cars were already there. Joining me for the day was my mom, and we were happy to see that most of the mountain was open, with the exception of Upper Meteor and Lower North Star. She requested that we kick off her Bristol season with a run down Rocket!

Early conditions were great, and the mountain didn’t feel nearly as busy as the parking lot suggested. We spent the morning getting after it with hot laps off the Galaxy Quad, cycling through Galaxy, Universe, and North Star. After about two hours, that pod was starting to get skied off, so we shifted gears and headed for some cruisers off the Morning Star Chair.

The sun popped out around noon and set the tone for a fun afternoon. Nova was skiing the best of the day; its lower-angle terrain paired with the slower chair made for excellent afternoon conditions. I also noticed that along skier’s right on Nova, it looks like some trees may have been thinned during the offseason, opening up a bit of low-angle tree skiing.

After a great day on the slopes, we capped things off with a stop at Brew & Brats. A cozy favorite for après and lunch, just 5 minutes down the road from the mountain.
