I had an opportunity to ski mid week and got a great deal on a lift ticket to Boyne Mtn so i used a personal ay and made the almost 4 hour trip north. When I left home the temp was 56 degrees and not a spot of snow on the ground. Around 3 hours into the trip as I got close to Gaylord things started to look better despite warmer temps over the past few days.
When I woke up at 4am I looked at the temp at Boyne Mtn and it was 48 degrees by the time I had got there it was down to 31 degrees so I figured that it would be extremely firm snow. The good part was as I was driving in the coverage looked great and after last season it was a welcome sight.
As expected the snow was very firm and it took a few runs to see just how far you could push your edges in your turns. With each run the sun helped out and I can say I did not have any ice at all just firm very fast snow.
With all the sun and very little wind it was the perfect day to enjoy cold pizza and a beer outside for lunch. Boyne is also pushing to stay open until May and they have a base that should get them there.
It was great to be able to ski mid week and get just over 17,000' of vertical in at Michigan molehill. The day ended with some delicious wings and a beer
