After seeing sobering photos from Gore and Whiteface yesterday, I was concerned that I'd be skiing through slush and around bare spots today, but just like Jason's experience at Hunter yesterday, Belleayre was in excellent shape, especially considering the ridiculous heat wave we're suffering through. I was on the lift at 8:30 and the first two hours were about as perfect as spring skiing gets -- not too soft, not too hard. I skied nonstop until noon, then hung out on the deck for an hour.
Here's a sampling of the local talent enjoying the beautiful conditions:
Today was Body Bag/Retro Day:
This guy remembered to accessorize with 80s Vuarnet sunglasses -- nice touch!
I saw quite a few porcupines today. They do a real number on the trees -- once they eat through the bark on about a quarter of the branches and trunk, it's curtains.
We were treated to appearances from Willie Nelson and Junior Soprano:
And to prove that New Yorkers aren't haters, Belleayre let this guy tend the grill:
Unless the weather starts cooperating, today may be my last ski day of the season. If that's the case, at least I went out on a high note.
