    Bar up or down?

I see a young man fell to his death in Montana recently, where he was basically blown off the chair (it had no bar). I treat safety bar use like seat belt use, it's simply automatic. Plus, it's state law in VT. I don't see the cultural bravado in not using it. What say you?

    Pass-holder only weekends?

I never know those existed, but Bohemia is pass-holder only on Saturday's, and Powder is going that route this season on every weekend in February. I wonder if that will ever catch on here in the east?

    Middlebury Snow Bowl Conditions

We Made It Through The Floods! December 20, 2023 Good morning skiers and riders! Boy, Mother Nature has sure thrown us some curveballs over the past months this year. While we did suffer significant natural snow loss with the heavy rain on Monday, our manmade surfaces held up really well. With...

    Magic is Going RFID?

"All passes include the cost of an RFID Card. It is $5 to replace if lost. Keep the RFID card for future years. You do not have to show the RFID card to access lifts, but it must be in your pocket to be scanned." What's next? Two base lifts to the summit?

Rest in Peace Betsy Pratt 3/12/28 - 03/17/23

Published On March 17, 2023 Betsy Pratt, born March 12th, 1928, began skiing Mad River Glen while attending Vassar College. It was on one fateful ski trip in 1954 that she met Truxton Pratt, a New York banker. At the time Betsy worked as assistant treasurer of the Ford Foundation. Betsy and...

    I don't think I like Loon.

It skis like a cross between Stratton and Okemo. Everything gets groomed, and it's mostly blue-green terrain. That ridiculous Kanc8 lift is pointless. It only goes halfway up a relatively small mountain, and rarely gets filled, even with a large crowd. Am I missing something? Cannon looks...

    Western Wolf reintroduction

It was a pretty hot topic in Steamboat this week. A rancher to the west of town lost one dog and nearly another to a pack, in addition to some calves. Obviously wolf packs have been active in Northern CO for years, but now that the voters have approved official reintroduction, the ranchers are...

    Our Winter of Discontent?

Here at Steamboat a local told me they are over 150 positions short. COVID is not the main reason either, it's affordable housing. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/26/travel/ski-resort-labor-shortage.html

I met my love at Steamboat today.

I'm sure it will be long gone soon enough, given the money being invested here and the demand for the fastest lifts possible (See the soon demise of Christie III, another great lift, for a second gondola). Bar-UE is their Magic Red Chair. I'll be on it the rest of this week (when not on...

    Steamboat Springs advice?

I'll be touching down there, for the first time, on Saturday. I've never been in that part of CO, so if anyone has any tips for the skiing, the drinking, and eating, I'm all ears! I'm staying on the mountain, sans car (the free bus works). I'm already set for a soak at Strawberry Park as...
