    Stratton Conditions

Stratton was excellent today. Total snow was 12" to 16". The gondola was down all day and only Ursa6 was running to the top before noon. We were able to enjoy 3 awesome, creamy runs before it got chopped up. The Ursa line became unbearable so we ran the lower lifts and found plenty of powder...

    Catskill 4 Area Discussion

I have been single day skiing the Catskills for over 4 decades. The only time I stayed overnight was for racing weekends at Hunter while in college. Since I have lived mostly in N NJ, all the areas are 2 hours or less of driving time. While I have lots of days at the 4 areas, there are also...

    Plattekill, NY: Saturday 2/23/2019

After reading the weather forecast for Sunday, I bailed on VT and headed to Plattekill. Temps were in the 20s when I arrived. The conditions where they groomed were decent. The ungroomed trails were variable and scraped on the steeper sections. There was a 1/2 inch crust on the closed trails...

    Mont Tremblant 4-12 to 4-14-2017

We skied a few days at Mont Tremblant during my daughter's spring break. We started the week with a few days visit to Montreal and drove up to Mont Tremblant on Tuesday in the rain. Wednesday was cold with intermittent rain and drizzle. We still had a good day. The base village. We stayed at...

    Stratton 12-17-2016

The storm that hit late Friday night into Saturday left a nice carpet of snow at Stratton. When we got to the mountain at 8am is was snowing and a balmy 12F with a gusty wind. The gondola was operating initially, but it was down by about 9:30. It was snowing and blowing enough to cover our...

    Elk Mountain, PA 1-18-2013

Elk Mountain has been on the goto list for a long time. Driving my son back to school provided an excuse to ski a 12:30-4:30 shift on Friday. Elk lives up to its billing. There are 11 black diamonds at Elk and we skied the 9 that were open. These trails would be diamonds at most Eastern ski...

High Mountain Park Preserve in Wayne, NJ

Today we decided to hike the highest mountain in view of the ocean on the east coast (south of Maine). We were just 18 miles from New York City but we only saw about 10 other people the entire hike. The trail is a loop that starts out at about 500 feet above sea level and tops out at 900 feet...

    Gore Mountain, NY: 3/19/11

Today started with clouds and temps in the high 20s. We were indecisive about where to ski and ultimately chose Gore. In an effort to let the trails soften, we took the time for a great breakfast at Sara's. Breakfast at Sarah's It was flurrying and windy at the Saddle. Our first run was...
