Poll: What changes would you like to see at your home mountain?

Well lapping gondolas sucks, so that's one good reason.

Poll: What changes would you like to see at your home mountain?

Ah, I always wondered if they were hoping to tap into ground water, but the bedrock blocked them, or something.

@Harvey What is the story with the pond on top of Platty?

    Hunter: Not Good, It's January

My non-expert opinion is they need to let Westway grow in and make it 100 feet wide tops.

    Belleayre Conditions

What Belleayre was able to offer today was absolutely phenomenal. Every snowmaking trail was open, skiable and fun to ski. I really figured today was going to be more of a bar day, but despite a very large crew of very different level skiers, we hit it all day.

    Hunter: Not Good, It's January

I really dislike a lot of the changes at Belle over the last 5 or so years, but the snowmaking is silly. They were blowing snow mid afternoon today and it was nice to ski on right out of the gun. Not to many years ago blowing anything in those temps would have been unimaginable. You may be...

    Hunter: Not Good, It's January

Belle gets way more natural, and their snowmaking is now at least as good as Huntahs. Plus they just spent millions on guns that can blow in marginal temps. I was skiing trees before xmas there, so I wouldn't be surprised if the base was better before this recent unpleasantness.

    Ski Industry "Debundling"

It used to give you a discount off of what they were charging the general public for that day, at the time you bought your ticket. Now it gives you a discount off the rack rate. My buddy and I bought tickets for next week, he paid $4 more than me. It's not worth the $59, at least if you plan...

    Snow Gun Waste

I think of it as seeding the part of the ski area I actually care about

    Yes You Need Snow Tires

Well, skiers and essential workers. My buddy with a lift and a tire change machine has a decent side gig mounting snows, this time of year for COs, in the Catskills.

There are a very small percentage of people who can work from home at all. Even most of these need to be in the office some percentage of the time. Data entry and call center work possibly being exceptions. Most people who need to be able to exercise independent judgement are going to want to...

    Plattekill Conditions

One of the benefits of being a civil servant is skiing on weekdays. On weekdays, they run the ridiculous gondola and close the Tomahawk. Lapping the gondola sucks. Same goes for the bar at Overlook on weekdays. Patrol seems to care about poaching a lot more these days. Hunter has cliffs, but...

    Plattekill Conditions

Belle has a lot to offer. The lines are always manageable, the snowmaking is great, they get the second best natural snow in the Cats, they have the second best trees in the Cats, they have the best cliffs in the Cats. Conversely, I would argue that the Gondy to nowhere has made it worse in a...

Indy Pass Idaho - Brundage, Tamarack, Soldier

It's a pretty easy flight to Boise. Take off from JFK at 730, in Boise at 230 local time with a brief layover in Seattle. Same thing in reverse, but landed nearer to 5PM. Under $300 round trip on Alaska.

Indy Pass Idaho - Brundage, Tamarack, Soldier

That doesn't really tell the story. Tamarack is 2 hours from Boise, Brundage a bit more. Stay anywhere near or between either and you have 4 days of skiing with minimal driving. I headed back to Boise and did Soldier basically as an hour and 40 minute each way day trip, which is about what...

Indy Pass Idaho - Brundage, Tamarack, Soldier

Nah, but I will say that all the mountains had a really welcoming vibe from staff, and Tamarack stood outwith lifties that were adding to the stoke every time you got on or off the lift. The only owner I met was at Soldier. Very nice older gent. I am really pulling for that place. They...
