    Platty Next Week?

Powder Daize should not be a factor when deciding on a Platty pass. To a large extent they have almost become extinct. There have been just a handful over the last number of years. Plus, with the increase in the number of mountain rentals, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

    Plattekill Conditions

This issue is K-Mart has the skier traffic so they reform and fairly quickly at that. Platty just doesn't get that traffic.

    Chair falls at Camelback

How is it the same outcome if the chair itself didn't fall in that other incident? The only thing that is the same is that people were injured. Edit: I've read some more details and comments and there are reports of swinging /bouncing chairs in this incident as well. But still bo fallinf xhair...

    Chair falls at Camelback

Anyone else see this? https://liftblog.com/2021/03/21/chair-falls-from-camelbacks-sullivan-express/ Just another reason to like simple, old, work-horse Hall lifts like at Platty. Fewer moving parts, a lot less to go wrong. I hope all who were injured a quick and full recovery.

The Importance (and Fun!) of a Quiver

It's not important, but just more fun! My original post on this topic said, it's the skier, not the skis. So, I think RA really hit it on the nose. Today was 23 when I got to the hill. Things didn't really start to soften until 11ish. I was rockin' those race skis for the first few hours and...

The Importance (and Fun!) of a Quiver

Agree, Harv. To each his own. More power to you. My family doesn't ski... at least not like they used to. Almost all of my days this year has been spent away from them. The quiver is the skis, not the binding. And, not for nothing, but it does seem, based on what I've seen of the terrain you...

The Importance (and Fun!) of a Quiver

Here's the deal, Harvey. We're getting older. We only have a limited amount of time to ski, possibly even a shorter time to ski as hard as I (we) like to. So, the older I get, the larger my quiver has become. Like my Dad always used to say, every job is easy if you have the right tool(s). I...

Hardpack ScrapeOff: Platty vs Belle, Hunter.

There is merely one theoretical advantage that Hunter has over Plattekill and that is that it is open all week. However, IMHO, this may not really be a true advantage. The more the place is open, the more it gets groomed and the firmer the trail surface becomes. Otherwise, it's like comparing...

Hardpack ScrapeOff: Platty vs Belle, Hunter.

Tele, Alpine - doesn't make a difference. (First, I've said it before and I'll say it again, its not the skis, its the skier). But more importantly: I bought a pair of Masters Race Skis, so basically a slightly detuned World Cup Race Ski. Maybe 70mm underfoot. Stiff as a freakin' 2x4. Mounted...

    Catamount Conditions

I love 'em all...(except not a big Thunder Ridge fan) but they fall way short of my 1000' vert criteria.

    Catamount Conditions

IMHO, Catamount is the best ski area with at least a 1000' vert that is closest to NYC.
