    ORDA Snowmaking Improvements

Personally, I have absolutely no problem whatsoever if the government wants to prop up a public good, even if it means that they lose some money. That's exactly why government exists. And if it so happens that I personally enjoy that public good, all the better.

    Belleayre Conditions

Popped over for a few laps before work. Between the snow, fog, and rain (which kept resolutely freezing on my goggles), visibility was damn near close to zero. I could barely see my skis. So I'm not 100% positive how the conditions were. Seemed OK though.

    ORDA Snowmaking Improvements

As someone on the gondola said to me yesterday, Belleayre is the Beast of the East right now.

    Belleayre Conditions

Went again today and the conditions were even better than yesterday. Highlight was Seneca with massive whales and very little company. But I think I pulled a muscle getting my foot out of the boot in the parking lot. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart.

This is really terrific. What an adventure! Thanks for sharing.

    Belleayre Conditions

I'm really impressed by Belleayre's ability to stave off climate change for a bit.

I'm almost positive that I've never seen anyone on it.

My personal favorite is Cathedral Brook. But you're not wrong, I love Utsuyantha. It probably wouldn't be anything special if the mountain crew ever touched it. What makes it great is that they don't. It's so rarely open and so sparsely populated.

    Absolutely glorious conditions today.

    Belleayre Conditions

I had my first, and second, wipeout of the year, within a few seconds of each other. The whales on Dot Nebel looked so enticing until I realized that they were actually just impenetrable sheets of ice with a little dusting of snow on top. Shortly after my hilarious misadventure, I noticed that...

    Belleayre Conditions

It's mostly 45mph in populated areas and 55mph in the wastelands in between. If you're not sure, look around. If you see a business, slow down. Boiceville is the last bastion of civilization. Once you're past the high school (Fly Eagles Fly!), then it's 55mph all the way to Arkville. The...

    Belleayre Conditions

I think there's a territorial thing going on. The locals get frustrated that their roads are clogged up by people from elsewhere and drive more aggressively. Weekends are the worst but it's the local drivers in pickups and Jeeps, not the Jersey families in minivans and Audis, that seem to be...

Do you have a NYSkiBlog sticker on your helmet or something? If so, send me one! I could have been sat next to you yesterday and not even known.

Judging by their webcams, it's not looking great.

    Belleayre Conditions

I’d imagine the warm, steady rain today (and the next two days) is going to set them back quite a bit. Maybe all the way back to scratch?

    Market Philosophy

I’d guess austerity programs in Europe and population crises in the Far East might explain that a bit.

How Many Ski Days in 21/22?

This year was complete shit for me. The weather conspired against me at the beginning of the season. Blackouts hit me once it finally snowed. And then work and family obligations did me in after the New Year. I didn't even hit double digits this year. What a waste.
