    Belleayre Conditions

The thing about Utsy and Goat's Path is that their annual open season is measured in hours, not weeks or even days. So from ORDA's POV, I can understand why they'd want to pull more customers there if they could. Sure, it would suck for me (a compulsive Utsy poacher), but it would benefit the...

    Belleayre Conditions

One of the patrollers told me that they're going to replace "Lift 7" (the one that ascends from Overlook Lodge) over the summer. I'm not sure what that gets them, if I'm honest. I presume it's a needed fix rather than a choice. If I was president of the world, I'd have them replace the lift...

    Belleayre Conditions

What Belleayre has pulled off this year is nothing short of miraculous. However, today it was icy and crowded. I ate shit avoiding a novice skier and landed on my thumb, somehow. Now I can't zip up my fly. Serves me right for skiing on the weekend.

    ORDA Snowmaking Improvements

“Open” and “skiable” are not the same thing. :D

    Whiteface Conditions

Excellent conditions yesterday. Wilmington and Northway were particular highlights. 3,000 vertical feet of difference at Whiteface makes Belleayre seem really insignificant.

    Skiology... What's your take?

That may be true but it is also true that Facebook is a shitty, shitty platform.

    Belleayre Conditions

There were some big ol' whales on Seneca, which is already the steepest slope on the mountain. Definitely felt my testicles in my throat a few times. :D

Fair enough. I though maybe I'd discovered a trail that everyone else already knew about. :D

    Belleayre Conditions

Ok, here's my question to the group. At the bottom of Cathedral Brook's steep section, where it turns left, a trail seems to go straight. If I look at the trail map, it seems to suggest that it comes quite close to the entrance to the Belleayre Express quad. I just don't want to end up on...

    Belleayre Conditions

Gorgeous day. Plenty of powder to be found, if you know where to look.

I guess that's what a sellout looks like in terms of parking.

    Belleayre Conditions

Wonderful conditions today. A little bit sticky in places. Seneca, with some well placed whales, was of particular delight.

    Whiteface Conditions

Is there any chance at all the Slides could be open by next week?

    Belleayre Conditions

Well, I had to duck under an orange rope so it's not exactly "open". :D But it's eminently skiable. Dreamcatcher glades are wonderful. Cathedral Brook has one place where you have to dismount and walk.

    Belleayre Conditions

Absolutely glorious day at Belle. I've only been skiing for a few seasons and I'm finally getting comfortable off the groomers. Today I stuck to the glades and bumps mostly. Highlights were Cathedral Brook, Utsayantha, and Dreamcatcher, none of which were (technically) open :D .

    Belleayre Conditions

It was a misty rain at home today so I had some hopes that it would be a light snow in Highmount. IT WAS!!

    Hunter: Not Good, It's January

Some time ago, a user on this forum excoriated me for comparing Hunter unfavorably to Belleayre and Windham. Their point was that the West Side at Hunter was far better than anything else at the other two. I was planning on heading over there some time this month and checking it out. But from...

Lapped Powderpuff with my daughter today. That whole side of the mountain is great for beginners.

Belleayre, NY: Jan 7-8 2023 E-Bike Ski Trip

This summer, I'm (hopefully) going to do a Niagara Falls to Rhinecliff trip almost fully on the Empire Trail. Not sure if you'll have the business up by then though. :D Ulster County is building a new rail trail from Big Indian to High Falls. It's being designed by the same folks who did the...
