    Gore Mountain Conditions

Gore usually puts out their snow report around 4-5pm the prior day. So you should have a good feel for what will be open this weekend by 5 on Thursday. Their reports do tend to be a bit optimistic and, as always, assume Echo is closed for racing/training.

In a 12-page thread of keyboard warriors whining about their favorite ski resorts, that's what triggers you?

Ski Resorts Panicking About Cold Weather

What is your favorite ski area close to ALB?

A lot of areas in Vermont (Okemo, Killington, Mount Snow, Magic, Bromley, Stratton) as well as Whiteface are all a shorter drive from Saratoga/Malta/Clifton Park than Belleayre and much better when considering midweek.

    Ski Tuning and Waxing

Longer lifespan (the bases don't dry out and potentially crack or shrink) and the wax makes them glide better. It's like putting lotion on dry skin.

    Ski Tuning and Waxing

Similar here. I have the garbage can strategically placed at the end of the ski so I catch a lot that way and use my leaf blower to get rid of excess shavings. I will add that I find it more important to wax before spring-like conditions or powder days, not so much for firm/fast conditions. I...

    Winter Weather 22/23

The weather has been crap this year, but just about every mountain besides Gore, Whiteface and Hunter have a ton of terrain open. Plattekill's at 100%.

    Winter Weather 22/23

I have just returned from a weekend at Jay. If you have the ability to get there this week, I strongly recommend you do so (I am talking to everyone, not just Tjf1967). Take a vacation day, call in sick, run away, do whatever you need to do to get there. That is all.

Poll: What changes would you like to see at your home mountain?

My sister and father live in Halfmoon now. Much easier drive to the mountains from there than Long Island!

Poll: What changes would you like to see at your home mountain?

In practice: yes, but Tannery used to extend all the way down past the (then non-existent) Topridge Chair to the base. I only took it once. It was a lot like the old Juggernaut at Killington. Lots of skating. Twister used to be much, much narrower--like Quicksilver is now.
