    F Vail

A lot of the resorts they bought from Peak (Mount Snow, Hunter, Okemo, Wildcat, etc) are close enough to population centers that they are day-tripable. So you don't need to stay at one of their lodging facilities. Stop for a nice breakfast sandwich at a local deli/diner/gas station before your...

Epic has been very helpful in that regard by cutting snowmaking at Hunter.

    Killington Conditions

I have a close friend who works in Operations at Killington. I asked him on Sunday (as we negotiated a bare spot near the top of Bittersweet by the Needles Eye lift) and he confirmed they will NOT blow more snow this season. Too much cost, for too little payoff.

    Killington Conditions

By coincidence I skied Killington on April 16 both this year and last year. I would estimate that Superstar Glacier was about 8-10 feet higher last year vs. this year. So if you are thinking about going, do it soon. There was a pretty big difference between Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.

The fireplace at the Saddle Lodge at Gore begs to differ.

    Bar up or bar down?

A liftie at a mid-station on Morse (at Smuggs) firmly suggested that I put the bar down as I passed through two weeks ago--I assumed in deference to the law. I did notice they had a sign on a subsequent run.

    Bar up or bar down?

Definitely a skier, but maybe he didn't have poles? It's been 4-5 years.

    Bar up or bar down?

A couple seasons ago, a friend and I were joined by a random stoner on the summit quad at Whiteface. I grabbed the bar and started to pull it down and the rando goes, "aw man, you use that shit?" He proceeded to smoke the whole way up, telling us all about his excellent homegrown--he was quite a...

Best places to learn moguls/bumps on blue terrain?

Spring skiing is a good time to practice bumps because they are not iced over and with softer snow they tend to develop across the mountain on blue (and green--looking at you Sunway) terrain in the warmer temps. The trick is to get on them before the snow gets too soft and sticky.

Rest in Peace Betsy Pratt 3/12/28 - 03/17/23

I'd be satisfied with mastering the 'don't sit five people across and block the whole damn trail' thing. Never saw a group of skiers do that.

    ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

I can fit my twin tips in the gondola at Whiteface and Belleayre. They do not fit in the slots at Gore (or K1 at Killington, for that matter).

They will probably be able to blow on it tonight.

    ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

Actually they traded an unreliable lift that broke down frequently for one that works. Are there more people on Cloud now? I have not noticed this.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Pretty sure the gondola is down more frequently than that.
