    Royal Mountain Conditions

Crazy day at Royal today. The snow was great with about an inch of fluff that fell after grooming covering everything in the morning. It skied into a pleasant packed powder. Captain Jack's made its season debut and was really nice. Combine the first Saturday after a snowy week since before...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

That was a fun and unexpected way to spend a Friday morning. You can't really call it a "powder day" opening, but the surfaces were nice on the groomers. Monday's powder in the ungroomed areas is hidden under Wednesday's crust. I decided to stick mostly on the groomed terrain and I'll...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

I don't remember this happening before: Royal's opening up tomorrow on a non-holiday Friday so people can take advantage of this week's snow.

    Jiminy Peak Conditions

There doesn't seem to be a thread for Jiminy, so I'll start one. I posted last night that I was considering a few options to ski today, none of which were my ultimate choice: Jiminy Peak. It ended up making the most sense for a lot of reasons, and it worked out great. This was my first Jiminy...

    The Indy Pass

I'm considering three main options for tomorrow: Indy redemptions at either Snow Ridge or Berkshire East, or an industry rate day at Gore. Berkshire East looks to have a good amount of terrain open and they should have done well with the Monday storm. The main down side is it's the furthest...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

There was about 3" of dense natural snow from the recent storm, which gave us a pretty pleasant ski surface today on a busy day at Royal. Some areas might qualify as packed powder but I'd go more loose granular for the most part. Doc's Drop made its season debut after having some snow pushed...

    Willard Conditions

I had a great little powder evening there just before Christmas 2020. We got something like 2 feet of snow and I was able to get up there before the inevitable rain and thaw that followed. Great little place. My nephew has a ski race or two there in the next few weeks and I'll do my best to...

    Catamount Conditions

I used my Indy Pass for a Catamount day today. It was my first time there since 2018, third time overall. I didn't get an early start, which is probably good, because the snow was pretty rough when I got out there around 11. I came down the NY side for the first few runs on a not-deep-enough...

    The Indy Pass

Going with Catamount. Hoping within a week these potential storms will have panned out and every mountain on the pass will look like great options.

Poll: What changes would you like to see at your home mountain?

For Royal, the number of skiers is good, but I'd be interested to see what might happen as an Indy Pass partner. It's not big name mountain, obviously, so it probably wouldn't overwhelm the place with new skiers. No new lifts are needed, definitely no need for high speed. However, seeing how...

    The Indy Pass

Thanks for the thoughts on this. I've been to Titus, just once, had a great day. It's a priority for me to get there at least one day this season, and it still could be that I'll go for a longer day and try to do that this week. I will probably be aiming for Thursday, but might switch to...

    The Indy Pass

I'm looking to redeem an Indy Pass day on a day trip this week. I had plans to meet a friend in NH to ski Cannon but it's not looking to be worth the long trip given current conditions. Candidates are all of the ones within a couple hours of me: West, Catamount, Mohawk (never been there)...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

It's amazing what a cold night and an all-out snowmaking effort can do. We went from some of the roughest conditions we've seen this season on Saturday to what had to be the best day of the season so far on Sunday. Freshly made snow almost everywhere. Queen was my top pick, with almost...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

It was a great day on the practice slope where I spend much of my day teaching (and taking advantage of the new Bunny Runner), but not as great on the main mountain. On the plus side, coverage on all the main runs is solid and Challenge is back online (and now groomed out). Unfortunately, the...

    Royal Mountain Bunny Runner Debut

It was a very exciting day at Royal today as the new Bunny Runner conveyor lift had its first day in service. It passed inspection on Thursday, and after a few early morning adjustments, started taking skiers and boarders up the middle third of the practice slope just after opening time. Here...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Closed out the holiday week with a really nice day today. I only taught one lesson, and that one was on the main mountain, so I got in more runs than I have recently. Wet granular everywhere, as you'd expect. There are some thin and even bare spots here and there. For the most part the cover...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Definitely not packed powder today, things got pretty slushy, but the cover is still good. A few thin spots near the bottom of Challenge and a bit of a brown patch near the top of Royal. With Challenge still ungroomed, the middle third has some bumps, much more so than we usually find anywhere...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

No, a new " Bunny Runner" carpet lift for about the middle third of the practice slope. Last I heard, it will be installed soon along the parking lot side of the slope.

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Yes, it runs on a slower speed. A carpet lift is coming soon (hopefully arriving within days) which might allow C to run a little faster. Not sure if that's the plan, though.
