Well, by upper tier, I mean those that are at least above average in income and assets, and usually within the top 20%. Poor and paycheck to paycheck people don't ski, face it, unless they live close to a hill and probably work there. If that wasn't the case, you'd see a whole lot more black and...

Ha. You're going full Death Valley. Manson family time. When it comes right down to it, the sport has always been for the upper tier of society. Even if you were doing little hills with good deals, it was still expensive for a family, especially if they went all in on summer with a beach house...

Powder Mountain new business model riles locals

Brighton is just another over run SLC hill mobbed with Ikon pass holders. Ikon and Epic have ruined SLC.

Powder Mountain new business model riles locals

This is interesting: "Starting in 2024-25, two lifts previously accessible to all ticket holders, Village and Mary’s, will be off-limits to anyone but Powder Mountain property owners and their guests." I was there just pre pandemic and experienced those two lifts a lot because that's the only...

Where are you skiing this week?

Best thing about this week is the clearance sales starting up. I never ski Saturdays. But Sunday ain't so bad. Not this last Sunday, though.

Maybe should be in the trip report section, but where? Anyway, I posted about Red River, NM, where I skied yesterday on my Taos trip, and looked around and thought that there was a lot of cheap beds. So I went to my old friend Booking.com, and only found two properties. My buddy said, try...

Where are you skiing this week?

Just skied Red River today, just north of Taos on the Enchanted Circle in...Red River. Free over 70. Very cool little mountain with a lot of steeps, but a lot for everyone. Would love to be there with a fresh foot of snow. Grilled cheese and fries, chicken wrap, two fountain sodas for 22 bucks...

Kite surfing is the snowboarding of windsurfing, although it seems to be more successful. I tried windsurfing as a Jersey boy, but, difficult sport to learn if you have to depend on the wind.

I asked. No maps. Dumb. Hey, I'm old enough to figure it out. But some of these cognitive challenged Texans, hoo boy.

Alterra gets a $3 billion infusion

No paper trail maps at Taos. Wtf? They want you to use your phone. Can you see your phone in bright sunlight at 12,000 feet? I can't. Classic corporate bs. Just to save some bucks. No.

Where are you skiing this week?

That was a nasty storm for NYC. Shut the place down. True blizzard with 60 mph winds and about three plus feet of snow. The ex and I had a midweek Kmart trip planned with a day of Hunter to start, and I decided to get on the road early before we couldn't on Sunday, watching the forecast. Never...

Where are you skiing this week?

I remember the 93 blizzard that shut down NYC. We were going to do a Hunter than Killington road trip, and decided to stay at Hunter another day because they got nearly three feet over two days of cold smoke. Killington got one inch. Best conditions evah at Hunter. Monday and Tuesday, too, and...
