    Whitefish Conditions

Found a great introduction to Whitefish that's recent. Had lunch with a friend yesterday who took the train from Spokane ski Whitefish and Schweitzer. He had recently retired so spent a two weeks skiing each mountain and had a ball. February 2025...

    Fall Weather 2025

Discovered the Bennington Battlefield in NY driving between Jiminy Peak and Clifton Park last weekend. Not the best for fall colors, but I'll remember the place for future reference. Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site, created in 1927, stopped by October 10, 2025 A view near the Tory...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I was talking about a PHEV, not a hybrid.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

May depend on how someone drives a PHEV. There are people who drive using EV 80% of the time. Obviously still need to change oil but not necessarily just based on the odometer miles driven. What type of maintenance are you thinking about? For how many years?

The Double Chair Podcast is Live

Turns out that Epic by Nature podcasts were revived. The first two were released on Oct. 8, 2025. Different format, in particular they will be shorter, 10-15 minutes instead of about 30 minutes. May even have a live conversation at times.

    Fall Weather 2025

Plenty of frost at Jiminy Peak this morning. Heading towards VT and Albany shortly. Got a unit on the top floor with a mountain view this time. The chair next to the building is for the teaching area for little kids and never-ever adults. I stay at the Wyndham timeshare/rental complex, not...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Having a RAV4 PHEV plus plenty of sunshine on a large south facing roof in central NC made it easy for my husband to justify adding solar when the roof had to be replaced. Now my daughter is living at home and driving the first RAV4 Prime for a daily commute of about 15 miles. Needless to say...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

The Australians are well aware of BYD. Given the higher cost of cars in general because Australia is a limited market (far away, right-hand drive) there are many brands/models they can't get.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I have you see a Level 3 charger in a ski resort parking lot. Level 2 are becoming fairly common. I'm staying at the Wyndham timeshare resort at Jiminy Peak. There are a couple pay Level 2 chargers over by the JP lodge. Massanutten is unusual. Has a couple free Level 2 chargers near the...

    Fall Weather 2025

Not quite as good for fall colors as a year ago, but still worth the drive up to the Berkshires last weekend. I'm staying up north until Sunday. Drove the scenic route through the Catskills on the way to Jiminy Peak, as expected the reservoirs are low Berkshire pond between Jiminy Peak and...

The Double Chair Podcast is Live

Listened on the way to the Berkshires last weekend. Appreciated that Bob (Robert?) is interested in learning about stuff he has had no need to pay attention to before. He's a good host. The question that came to mind was whether or not you had ever listened to the podcasts that Katz did as...

    Yes You Need Snow Tires

BUMP Another ski forum is in the midst of a discussion about tires so reminded me of this thread. Bottom line is that my husband came to the conclusion . . . without any help from me . . . that the Michelin CrossClimate2 made sense for the 2022 RAV4 AWD that I was going to drive to Colorado...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Long ago I used to take RT209 when going between NC and Lake Placid. Would take I-95 to the Baltimore beltway, then go north on I-83 and head towards Allentown. For several years I stayed overnight in Port Jervis or Newburgh, then drove up to LP in daylight the next morning. I usually have to...
