    Whiteface Conditions

I think it's called curing. While it makes sense - or to keep them around if warm weather is approaching (more volume, less surface area = less loss of snow), some of them have been left for weeks, i.e. Lower Skyward. And when they are pushed out, WF often leaves very obvious humps.

Yes. I think it's more than just the weather. They've been late in making snow in some opportunities when they had the chance. Although there were moments, the snowmaking is no better than it's been over the last few years. There's no way they've been running at full capacity. Whales are not...

    Whiteface Conditions

A few times this past weekend people asked if I - or those I was skiing with - had seen the article. There definitely was a buzz. Although it doesn't look good for Aaron, it may not be because of him. Nobody seems to know who calls the shots. Is it WF management? ORDA? Albany...

Where are you skiing this week?

Whiteface. Probably with 6000 other people.

It may be a little late, but here are pictures from last weekend. It looks like it's going to be a different story this weekend.

Rope on Lower Skyward was dropped. Lots of pops and whalebacks. A fun run today. With a lot of the traffic there and Niagara, I got a run on Paron's that was completely empty but with great snow. Wilderness was open from Wildwood (just down from mid on LWF chair. Guns were a bit damp, bit...

Word was that one of the two intake systems (by the river) was out of commission for the season. And a compressor - I think it was a compressor - is pooched for the year. I think they have 8, maybe 6 compressors. I wish they would be more up front with the goings on. People understand that...

In looking at the forecast and the calendar, I don't see how Lookout opens this year.

The picture with the skiers in the distance made me gasp.

    Middlebury Snow Bowl Conditions

My guess is population, cold weather and many of the mountains are too big to support night skiing. And it would cut into time to do grooming.

    Whiteface Conditions

There seems to be a lot of chatter about the need for the reservoir, given the snowmaking issues. I don't know where it fits in the priority order. It's entirely possible it never materializes. If you look at the maps on the UMP, there are lots of trails approved to be cut, but that have...

    Are you a picker?

At the risk of sounding very nerdy, those skis could have been used by that patroller in the 1966 FIS championships in Portillo, maybe even as a forerunner. Jean-Claude Killy took gold in the downhill.

Approach - Mountain Run etc. is open. A good amount of snow on the trail, but it's not wall-to-wall. Like Brookside, Draper's is about half width, M.R. a bit more than that. Today may have been emptier than yesterday. Soft, hero snow. Let's hope it stays.
