These small ski areas died a natural death due to diminished snowfall, changing demographics, lack of capital, and small vertical. I first laugh and then cry when somebody starts up the “let’s rebuild the Big Tupperware” thread.
But there will much less great skiing on Darkside and Darkside wasn’t big to begin with. The section between hullabaloo and lift line has been diminished in size. The boulder piles make for a femur splitting experience under the lift. I think that it will be groomerized with snowmaking.
Both gore/WF are big enough to have been bought by one of the mega ski corps and upgrades would have been done. It’s the small independent areas which are always at risk for updates. Gore/WF are similar to county jobs which provide vast majority of jobs in these rural areas. I am glad that NYS...
I finally rode the HP chair today and was shocked by the carnage from this vantage point even though I had hiked this area many times this summer and fall. The cleanup will be a tremendous job if it is ever attempted. The darkside has shrunk by about a 1/3 and will never be the same.
Well said. I could rant for quite a while but you’re doing a good job. Gore is losing its identity which it can never get back. It is being homogenized.

They blasted the majority of rocks out leaving a jagged, rough surface. The northeast requires terrain that requires about 40+ inches to be skiable due to limited seasonal snowfall and rain cycles. Gore averages about 120 inches a year with now regular rain and melt events which continually...
I’m a big fan of High Adventure Bike And Ski in Latham. Quick turn-around and honest service. I know the delmar shop. Had to get an inner tube fast and went to them. They charged me double what high adventure charged. I avoid the delmar shop for its premium pricing and elitist attitude.
