I’d rather see more open on the main mountain. Some weekdays the north quad or even High Peaks is closed. More Ski Bowl is gonna mean less of the main mountain, and not just because of snowmaking. I’m sure some of the weekday closures ( especially glades) are because of too few qualified...

    Park City Ski Patrol Strike

Vail: Let's consolidate as many destination ski resorts as possible to create enough market power to change the payment model of the entire ski business in order to maximize our corporate share of value created by our management of assets and employees. Park City ski patrol: Good idea, we'll do...

Yesterday was my best day of the year at Gore. Today Whiteface has better coverage and better and more terrain. Everything is better at WF. It was definitely worth the extra drive. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

It was way better today. There’s still some gravel and thin spots but most of it is open except Twin Fawns and the other trails near there. I don’t think it read cold enough to make snow today. It felt like high humidity too. It’s disappointing the Uncas and Open Pit still aren’t open. mm

Here's some more questions: Bruce Transue was recently appointed VP of operations for all the ski areas. What authoruty did Bone lose iin that reorganization? Does Gore still have its own operations manager? What authority did the Gore operations manager lose? mm

@Harvey Are these the kind of questions you’re looking for? What is your vision of Gore? Is it a venue for national and international competitions, or a budget driven local ski area? Does ORDA share your vision? Many of us are concerned about snowmaking this year. Conditions seem to be much...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I’ve been skiing Gore since before it had snowmaking, and I don’t think I’ve never seen it this bad. Belleayre was essentially fully open last Tuesday but Gore had less than 40% of its trails open Friday. The upper mountain was better than its been but Sunway between Twister and Wild Air was...

    F Vail

I have a friend who was a full time instructor and ski school manager in Telluride. He had a subsidized house on the mountain. About 10 years ago he told me he was getting “big money.” When I asked he told me 30K. Apparently resort employee money is different from city money. dm

You think you are insulated from the epic problems of corporate resorts, and maybe you are for now. But sooner or later those Park City crowds will find the Indy mountains the owners will figure they can charge epic prices. Even the bottom end of the market moves with market, and the market is...

None of this is surprising, It's the predictable result of moving to a business strategy of almost entirely depending on season passes. The season pass is a sunk cost, but a day of skiing still has the same value it always has. Back when you were buying day passes you were paying ~$100/day but...

    Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

I was at Belle yesterday and the difference between that and Gore is amazing. Belle has completely recovered from the last rain while Gore hasn’t opened any new terrain or resurfaced the limited terrain it has open. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Cold day at Belle today. Most of it is open except the trails where they are making snow. Surfaces are firm but a lot of nice spots where snow blows in. It looks like it’s snowing but maybe that’s just the wind blowing the snow making around. At least it’s windy. How is Gore today? mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

That will never happen. Gore is just too hard to get around for anyone who hasn't skied there dozens of times, or who doesn't have elite skating skills. Everything they've added has only made it harder to get around. Does anyone want to do Ruby or Pipeline or Cedars or Eagles Nest with little...

Has it ever opened before MLK? I bet it opens before Steilhang and Rumor this year. Maybe even before Uncas. If you spend $30 million you gotta move it up the priority list. mm
