    Tales from The Road

I find that if I just "donkey kick" it with the heel of my boot, it tends to come out without too much effort.

I can't say that I ever was a "big partier" ... the photos that Camp posted in the NYS Snowmobile Conditions thread are much more my speed ... beer, pizza, wings ... what more do you need! That said, it certainly was fun to spend a little time in a different world. While we were enjoying the...

There were some t-bars and platter lifts at Val Thorens & Courcheval. I didn't see any at Meribel, but that doesn't mean there weren't any! As James said, the lift infrastructure was insane ... particularly at Val Thorens. Many of the six-packs had two loading areas ... that is, as you...

    What's on TV

I watched the U.S. mixed doubles team play two curling matches last night ... against Australia and Italy ... I love to watch curling. It's crazy how intense they get! They should change the rules though ... I think it should be required that you have a beer in one hand while competing!

Such a contrast from my experience at Les 3 Vallees ... It was an amazing trip, but I have to say, I would love to visit these small town places you're going to ... I'm sure they're nowhere near as extravagant as Courcheval or Meribel, but I'm sure they have a different kind of character that...

For what it's worth ... your reports over the years on this blog (and I think you may have been on SkiADK back in the day) of your trips to Europe were definitely an inspiration. I've always read your reports and have longed to experience it for myself. I was always reluctant to go on my own...

Our flight was originally booked as a non-stop from Newark. The airline changed it on us 3 or 4 weeks prior to our departure. They gave us the option to make a change, but we'd have to pay the difference, and the only non-stop from the New York area was $600 more!!! I won't name the airline...

Ski Day Five - January 28 - Val Thorens / Orelle / Les Menuires / Meribel For our final ski day, we spent a little time in Val Thorens and then took a run in Orelle. After that, we made our way to the fifth valley, Les Menuires. After a couple of runs over there, we went back over to Meribel...

Ski Day Four - January 27 - Val Thorens / Meribel For our fourth day, we bounced around between Val Thorens and Meribel, and then back to Val Thorens for a late lunch on the mountain. In Meribel, we rode the gondola to the top of Mont Vallons. The views from the top of this peak were some of...

Ski Day Three - January 26 - Courcheval I woke up Wednesday morning and looked out the window of my hotel room. The dawn light on the mountain was too good to let go without a photo. Our plan for the day was to make our way over to Courcheval. We headed out a little earlier than the prior...

Ski Day Two - January 25 - Meribel Our plan for day two was to ski Meribel. Our group size had increased to twelve. We weren't the most evenly matched skiers, but it didn't matter. No one in the group was in a hurry, and being limited to the groomed trails just meant waiting at the bottom for...

Ski Day One - January 24 - Val Thorens / Orelle We spent our first day “close to home”, skiing Val Thorens and Orelle, a much smaller area one valley over from Val Thorens. I was with a small group of five, including my friend from work, a friend of his from the club and another couple. This...

A Bucket List Item Completed For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to ski in Europe. The opportunity finally presented itself this past September. A friend from work runs a ski club out of New York City. They had a trip to Val Thorens, France planned for late January of 2022. This was a...

    Catamount Conditions

Yes ... This can really make the difference between success & failure. Most customers understand that sometimes ... shit happens ... Taking responsibility for failures is something that most businesses don't do. Of course, if ... shit happens ... becomes the norm, that's another story!

    Downhill course for University games

I don't believe downhill is one of the events. There will be slalom, giant slalom and super-g, along with alpine-combined and mixed parallel slalom. These events will all likely be held on Upper Parkway, Upper Thruway & Draper's Drop. I guess it's possible that they might provide access to the...
