ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Saw one in Netherlands last year. They look cool. Even before tariff wars, we have a prohibitive tariff against chinese EVs (50%?). If we didn't, even Tesla would be in trouble (not attacking or justifying, just saying). But I do think US tesla prices are higher because they are trying to...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

So sorry about this. Early on ish they were pretty good (I would say early to mid 2023). I could pull 150-175 kw no problem, including for the one that is an exit north of Gore in a gas station off 87. Then I think they fired the vendor (maybe because they were not maintaining), but this is...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

PS I saw a video by someone called the electric viking (in australia no less) saying that sodium (sodium!) batteries are the next big thing. My chemistry is limited to AP in High school but once 5 minute charging is available in the US it will get really interesting. Demand wise, I didn't...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Agree - it was interesting but a bit too generic masked as not generic by having a state-by state break down. Have I said that I like this thread?

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

We agree on this one. Unless you have a good solar set up : ) Even assuming my kiddos are driving at some point with 4 in the household with a vehicle (somewhat unlikely all at once) the solar setup should mean we are not coming out of pocket behind the monthly hookup and the 15 year loan...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Honestly, my big ol' Rivian battery does just fine on a L2 charger. Even the 3.2Kw sipping split at Gore when both chargers in use.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Yeah I saw that. While this particular graph looks reasonable, it depends both on your state an your particular set up (solar/not solar). One interesting thing is the role of AI-related data centers in driving up electricity costs. Apparently electricity costs have gone up in the range of...

    Garden Harvest

It is a great Fall. We have cherry tomatoes that we finally use (they grow like weeds). We have made batches of sauce like once every two weeks this past month and should be able to do another this weekend. My Polish wife’s sauce’s may be better than my Italian mother’s was. Here is a roast...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

The good news is that I think RJ still has control and is a billionaire, so he ultimately won't have real pressure to sell unless it is clear that Rivian is not a going concern. So i also think they will make it.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

If Rivian gets to R3, their will be lots of ppl in those vehicles. I think R2 will still be pricy now that tax credits will be gone, but then again, I think random ICE midsize SUVs are in the 45 range anyway. Hoping for a strong R2 rollout. My son will be driving age in 2.5 years. I don't...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

To be clear I would never pay 80 k or whatever. I would not buy the rivian at current prices. For me it was a planned splurge and the only thing that checked my boxes (real family car with third row, off road capable as is, electric, 300 miles of range). After tax rebate and first year’s...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Sorry dude. I meant more that it feels more like an ICE: it makes a fake vroom sound; if you go with defaults it drive like ICE, etc. Not to be cute, understanding my implicit bias, I don’t think the market in central NY is demanding EV trucks. Yes generalizations are bad.

Ooh I did not. Will try to check it out. Only drove it the 20 minutes from the service center.

    The Mouse Thread

Have had mice in the past. The best way to get rid of them is to seal all entrances to your home bigger than a dime. With Steel wool and compuound or something like this. A practical fix when you live in an apartment. Less so on a home. If there are cats around, mice will usually stay away.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Took the rivian in for tire rotation and some small warranty items. Got a Silverado EV loaner rental. First impression quite nice. Ac better than Rivian. Drive feel is better than the S (though about same as T). I like it. R1s better in all other ways. I will say this could be a...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Efficiency update on the bolt - one pedal driving I am getting 4-5 miles per kw, about 2x the efficiency of the Rivian. I filled to 80% last night and did 10.1 miles today on 2.1 kw. My daughter does not like the car (thinks it is ugly; happens to hate Teslas). My son was like, this is a...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

One of the last times I was biking in town (year or two ago?) I put my right turn signal out (bent left arm). A jeep then came up, cut into me. I reacted quickly enough to slam on the brakes and move, but wtf is up with that? Randomly, the jeep turned onto the entry into a small...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Just a PSA on the bolt - I still like my Rivian more (can ski and drive on beach in same day) but I am digging the bolt. Unlike the Rivian, the bolt is making me drive more conservative because it gives you a high-low on the guesometer. Full charge (don't do that ev owners - the dealer did)...

    So it begins

Yeah man PM me or Harv can send you my cell. While it is sad, I don't have any big trees around my house, and I have east and west good roof lines. That is good. Best is south facing and no trees. Also, if you are not at the point on knowing what it will be exactly you could take south...
